Brigit vs Chime MyPay

MyPay is nearly free — if your paycheck goes to Chime. Brigit costs more but works with any bank and does more than advances. The right answer depends on where you bank.

Chime MyPayBuilt into Chime Checking
8.6/10

If you're a Chime member with direct deposit, MyPay is close to free money-before-payday and there is little reason to pay Brigit $8.99. If you're not, Brigit works with the bank you have — and MyPay doesn't exist for you.

  • Choose Brigit if: you don't bank with Chime and don't want to switch, you need advances approved from benefits or pension income at another bank, or you want Brigit's budgeting tools and Premium's identity protection.
  • Choose Chime MyPay if: your paycheck already goes to Chime, or you're open to moving it: MyPay costs $0 (or $2 instant) with no subscription, and pairs with SpotMe and Chime's Credit Builder card.

How MyPay works

MyPay is a feature inside Chime Checking, not a separate app. Chime looks at your direct-deposit history and shows how much of your upcoming paycheck you can take early — up to $500 per pay period. Standard delivery is free within 24 hours; instant delivery is $2. Repayment is taken from your next direct deposit automatically. There's no subscription, no interest and no tip. Eligibility requires qualifying direct deposits into Chime; Chime does not publish an exact threshold but $200 or more per month is widely reported as the floor, with limits scaling from there.

Chime also offers SpotMe, a fee-free overdraft of up to $200 on debit purchases. Together with MyPay it covers most of the use cases people turn to Brigit for.

Where Brigit still wins

  • Bank choice. Brigit connects to 15,000+ banks; MyPay is Chime-only.
  • Income types. Brigit approves recurring benefits and pension deposits at any bank; MyPay needs direct deposit into Chime.
  • Budgeting and overdraft prediction. Auto Advances can fire automatically when Brigit predicts an overdraft; Chime has alerts but not predictive advances.
  • Identity-theft protection and credit reports on Premium.

Chime users can also use Brigit — Chime Checking is one of the most common linked banks — but paying for Brigit on top of free MyPay only makes sense for the tools, not the money.

Credit building: two different products

Chime's Credit Builder is a secured Visa card with no annual fee or interest, funded from your Chime account, reporting to all three bureaus. Brigit's Credit Builder (Premium) is a small installment account with your contributions held in savings and returned at the end. Both report payment history; a credit card adds revolving-account history, an installment account adds loan history. Neither requires a hard credit pull. If you want both types, Chime's card is free and Brigit's costs $15.99 a month as part of Premium.

Personal loans $200–$5,000

Need more than $500?

Brigit caps advances at $500. Compare personal-loan offers from $200 to $5,000 — free, no obligation, and checking won't affect your credit score.
